I would recommend this item to a friend! This review is from DIY Kit: 'Data Doubler' 2.5" HDD/SSD Mounting Kit for Mac mini (2011, 2012). If any part of the screen is below the ledge, the screw holes will not line up. When reinstalling the antenna assembly, the edge of the perforated screen must rest on a very narrow ledge on the case. It also helps to make two pencil marks on the top front of the case to mark the localtion of the holes for the pins to line up the drive as it is inserted. The pins on the drive will fall into place almost without any struggle. When reinserting the top drive, stand the mini on its top face and tilt so it is maybe 20 degrees beyond vertical. Then this critical reconnection is much easier and surer. When reconnecting the power supply, leave as wide a gap as possible when reinserting the main board. The resulting improved performance is remarkable for both units! It took me perhaps an hour for the whole process including formatting the drives and upgrading the OS. The instructions have been updated and are much more helpful and instructive. The second installation was in my wife's mini - so a SSD and a larger capacity HD could be added. None the less, once the problems were solved, the computer has functioned flawlessly. There were a couple of steps in the installation instructions of about three years ago that could have been clearer - mainly for some reassembly steps. I assembled my first pc in 1976 so I have a lot of DIY experience - my data processing and computer experience goes much further back (1946). The first installation in my own mini was a bit of a struggle. It has a fusion drive, and I could go 100% SSD for everything that I use on a regular basis, keeping the existing hard drive for data files. It was easy enough that I am thinking of doing the same thing to my other Mac Mini that I use as a desktop PC. The kit had all the tools you need, plus the SATA connector which is the real value of the kit. One of these kits, and a 1TB SSD, and I improved performance and more than doubled the Media space by making the new SSD the boot drive, plus where I store music and TV shows, which still has lots of space to grow, plus the old 1TB drive is used only for movies, and is 40% free now, so I dont see needing to do anything for a long time.

It had a 1TB hard drive, and the drive was 95% full and I was having to remove movies or music to make room for new ones, and inevitably I would want to watch one of the ones I removed. I had a 2012 Mac Mini that I was using as a Media Server. AugThis kit, and the detailed installation video OWC provides was perfect. Anyhow, I appreciate the "Data Doubler" kit. give me a link to some proper adhesive I can order from Amazon or Home Depot. include some kind of safe glue in the kid to enable re-applying the adhesive, or 2. In reality, when you start to unpeel those existing adhesives, they don't stick back easily (after all this computer is almost 10 years old). One piece of constructive criticism: part of this kit included a bonus kit to shield the Bluetooth antennae from frequencies put out by the USB 3 standard (I think I got that right). Specifically, the videos were what turned what could have been a dystopian experience into a totally casual Saturday afternoon project.

The physical part of the upgrade kit is really only part of the story part of the value here is the expertise made available via the how-to collateral. I was able to replace the existing 256GB SSD with *TWO* 2TB SSDs using this kit.
